Jantzen’s Timeless Glamour

For the inaugural post of POP (Photographers on Photography), we’re featuring the Summer 2010 print campaign of iconic swimwear designer Jantzen. The line celebrates Jantzen’s 100th anniversary with vintage-inspired swimsuits and gorgeous images shot by luxury brand agency Laspata DeCaro’s Rocco Laspata. The images below are currently running in the June/July issue of Harper’s Bazaar.

Inspiration for the collection and advertising campaign was found in the Jantzen archives where the Laspata DeCaro team had access to vintage swimsuits and artwork, including original Varga advertising illustrations. Jantzen’s legacy give these images a retro credibility and depth missing from some of the other brands riding the Mad Men wave (read more in a June 11th New York Times piece here).

The images were shot by Rocco Laspata with styling by Charles DeCaro (partner at Laspata DeCaro) at Pier 59 Studios in New York. The model is Michelle Buswell from Marilyn with hair by Ward and make-up by Denise Markey. Retouching was done by Nucleus Imaging.
